World Photography Day celebrated at Doon University

Dehradun, 19 Aug: On the occasion of World Photography DayDoon University’s School of Media and Communication Studies organised a photo exhibition, a quiz and a series of related events that showcased the creative talents of its students. The exhibition featured a student-designed photo installation, an insightful photo feature and a thematic photo shoot, each aimed at drawing attention to social evils and contemporary challenges.
Vice Chancellor Surekha Dangwal congratulated the students for their innovative use of photography as a medium to expose societal problems and applauded their dedication to fostering positive change. Head of the Department Rajesh Kumar also echoed these sentiments, further observing that encouraging young people to spread messages of sensitivity and optimism through visual storytelling is a pioneering effort and affirming the department’s commitment to sustaining this initiative for generations to come.
Programme coordinator Juhi Prasad explained that the exhibition sought to capture the diversity of everyday life under themes such as Faith, Landscape, Urban Space, Architecture, Animals, Lone Person and Surroundings, the People and the Portraits. Alongside these creative displays, a photo essay analysed pressing issues including the inequalities faced by daily-wage labourers, exploitation of women and child labour, demonstrating the power of the photographic medium to raise awareness and inspire action.
Registrar Durgesh Dimri was among those present on the occasion along with Nitin Kumar, Rashi Mishra, Aabshar Abbasi, Piyushi, Vandana, Ankit Nagar, Rajneesh and Rama, while students Shivansh, Shadaan, Shibaan, Shruti, Khushi, Manan, Divyanshi, Piyush, Sukriti, Balram and others served on the management committee to ensure its smooth execution.
