MUSSOORIE, 2 Mar: Parking their Scorpio cars in the ‘no parking’ zone on Mall Road and arguing with police proved costly for Delhi and UP tourists in Mussoorie, the queen of hills. Police nabbed the cars and slammed challan on the drivers. It is to be noted that parking of vehicles on the kerb in Mall Road is prohibited but many influential tourists are causing traffic jams by parking their lengthy cars on Mall Road. The Mussoorie police has resorted to stringent action against them. On Sunday, a tourist parked his white Scorpio on the road near Chic Chocolate on Mall Road due to which a stream of vehicles got jammed on either side of the road.
Alerted by the traffic jam, police reached the spot under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Jyoti Pawar, but the influential tourists threw their weight around, and landed into a heated argument with the police instead of pulling out their car from the Mall Road. SI Jyoti Pawar took a rigid stand and hauled the car into her custody and taught the tourists a lesson in the rule of law in Mussoorie. Upon this, the tourists publicly apologized for creating chaos and misbehaving with the police, after which the matter was settled.
Mussoorie police have started a challan drive against wrong parking and violation of rules. In the last few days, the police has challaned many tourists and locals. Mussoorie, which is a major tourist destination, is facing an increasing problem of parking, especially during the tourist season. By taking this step, the police are trying to ensure that there is no chaos and traffic jams on the roads. The police are imposing heavy fines on wrong parking zones and have also towed away vehicles parked in no parking zones. This action is being taken to maintain a proper traffic system on the roads of Mussoorie. They have requested the tourists coming to Mussoorie to follow the designated places for parking in Mussoorie and do not park the vehicle in no parking areas, so that you do not have to face any kind of trouble.
