Dehradun, 11 Feb: Acting on the call of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), a high-level meeting of senior Congress leaders was convened at the Pradesh Congress Committee office here today. The meeting, presided over by Pradesh Congress Committee President Ganesh Godiyal, centred on preparations for a ‘massive’ Lok Bhawan Gherao scheduled for 16 February. Senior leaders offered suggestions to ensure the success of the protest and shared updates on the preparatory measures undertaken so far.

Outgoing Media In-charge Rajiv Maharshi stated that the march is being organised to raise urgent public interest issues in Uttarakhand. He shared that the demonstration will witness the participation of senior party leaders, MLAs, former MLAs, AICC and PCC members, state office bearers, and representatives from various frontal organisations of Congress, departments, and cells. Thousands of Congress workers from across the state are expected to join the agitation. Maharshi emphasised that the party intends to corner the BJP government on contemporary issues, including the deteriorating law and order situation, rising atrocities against women, unemployment, and frequent attacks by wild animals in the state. Following the discussions at the party headquarters, Godiyal, accompanied by other senior leaders, also visited the Parade Ground site to issue necessary directives to party functionaries regarding event logistics.

Godiyal claimed that the general public has grown weary of the BJP government’s anti-people, anti-women and anti-youth policies, as well as the collapsing security apparatus and the menace of wild animals in rural areas. He further claimed that the state residents are seeking relief from an inefficient administration. Highlighting the deteriorating safety standards, Godiyal mentioned the incidents where a woman’s throat was slit in broad daylight under police watch and a businessman was shot in the capital city. On this occasion, he also called upon all Congress workers to participate in the 16 February Lok Bhawan Gherao in large numbers to hold the government accountable.
