Mussoorie, 18 Feb: The municipal administration took strict action on Wednesday to keep the Mall Road area, here, encroachment-free and orderly. On the instructions of Council Executive Officer Gaurav Bhasin, illegal encroachments by roadside vendors on the road leading to Kasmanda Hotel were removed. Goods left on the road were confiscated, and dilapidated and unusable vehicles parked there for a long time were also removed and seized.

Local residents had complained that some street vendors on Kasmanda Road were encroaching by placing boxes and other items on the roadside despite repeated warnings. Additionally, many old and dilapidated vehicles were parked on the roadside, which not only disrupted traffic but also created filth and led to the gathering of anti-social elements. Following the initiative of local councillor Jasbir Kaur, the municipal administration arrived at the scene and took action.

Executive Officer Gaurav Bhasin stated that the street vendors had been issued several notices and verbally instructed not to place their goods on the road. Despite this, they continued to disregard the rules. He categorically stated that any kind of encroachment on the roadside would no longer be tolerated. He explained that the Municipal Corporation has designated a separate space for street vendors. Those allotted designated spaces will be required to conduct their business there. If any vendor is found again placing goods on the road or other prohibited areas, strict action will be taken.

Under the direction of Municipal President Meera Saklani, a continuous campaign is being carried out to organise the Mall Road area. The Executive Officer stated that action is also being taken against vehicles parked illegally on Mall Road. Additionally, a system is being developed to completely control vehicle parking on the main roads. He also appealed to the shopkeepers on Mall Road to ensure that no vehicles are parked in front of their shops. If any vehicle is parked in violation of the rules, to immediately inform the municipality so that action can be taken as per the rules.
