Dehradun, 9 Apr: The Dehradun district administration has issued stringent directions regarding the registration and renewal of ultrasound and all radio diagnostic centres operating or proposed in the district. The administration has made it clear that no facility will be permitted to function without full compliance with prescribed public safety standards. District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal has stated that for the first time in Dehradun, approvals of operation are now being granted only to those diagnostic centres that strictly meet comprehensive safety and regulatory norms, marking a significant shift towards prioritising public safety in healthcare services.

The administration has undertaken strict measures to ensure the safety of citizens in the registration of ultrasound centres and all radio diagnostic facilities located in hospitals and other establishments across the district. Over the past six months, new registrations as well as renewals of existing centres have been processed only after verifying adherence to the mandated standards. According to Bansal, the move is aimed at strengthening the regulatory framework and ensuring that healthcare facilities operate within clearly defined safety parameters.

The DM has directed that all the hospitals, ultrasound centres and the diagnostic facilities must mandatorily comply with the provisions of the Clinical Establishments Act, 2010. In addition, it has been made compulsory for such centres to ensure proper and safe disposal of biomedical waste in accordance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules. Centres providing ultrasound services are also required to strictly adhere to the provisions of the PCPNDT Act.

It has been further clarified that during the process of registration or renewal, strict verification of the compliance to the norms will be undertaken. This includes ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene, structural safety of the building, valid fire safety certification, authorised arrangements and certification for biomedical waste disposal, mandatory sewage treatment systems, and submission of a No Objection Certificate from the Pollution Control Board.

The District Magistrate has instructed the officials concerned to conduct thorough scrutiny of all applications and to grant registration or renewal only to those centres that fully satisfy all prescribed norms. In cases where any irregularity is detected, strict action will be taken against the establishments in accordance with the rules. He has reiterated that maintaining the quality of healthcare services in the district and safeguarding public interest will remain the foremost priority, and that strict enforcement of these norms will be ensured across all facilities.
