Udham Singh Nagar, 25 Apr: An unauthorised mazaar constructed on railway land near AIIMS on the Kichha–Pantnagar highway was demolished early morning today in a joint operation carried out by the district administration and the Izzatnagar railway authorities under tight security arrangements. It may be reminded here that prior to the demolition, due legal notices had been issued to the caretakers of the structure by the railway administration, asking them to produce land-related documents. However, no response was received by the Railways and the notice period finally expired without any response. Consequently, the railway authorities formally sought police assistance from the district administration to demolish the illegal religious structure. Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Nitin Bhadauria, the structure known locally as “Beni Mazaar” was removed early this morning.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Pankaj Upadhyay shared with the media that notices had been served on 26 May 2023 and again on 18 September 2025, requiring the caretakers to furnish ownership documents related to the property in question, but neither the documents were produced nor was the structure voluntarily removed. Subsequently, this morning, the railway administration requested police support for the demolition. The Officials confirmed that no remains or relics were found beneath the structure after its removal.

According to information, the unauthorised mazaar was not only obstructing railway expansion plans but also hindering the widening of the Bareilly–Nainital state highway. The administration clarified that the demolition of the illegal structure was necessary to facilitate development projects in the region.

Meanwhile it may be reminded here that so far 582 illegal structures have been cleared from government land in Uttarakhand under the ongoing campaign. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has repeatedly asserted that encroachments on government property will not be tolerated and that the practice of covering land with green and blue sheets to claim possession will be firmly stopped. He has emphasised that government land must remain free from encroachment and misuse.
