Dehradun, 25 Apr: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today personally observed the process of honey extraction at his official residential complex, where 520 kilograms of honey have been produced this year within a span of just 45 days. On this occasion, the CM observed that Uttarakhand holds immense potential for honey production, particularly in the hill and forest regions. He directed the officials to prepare an effective policy for installing bee boxes in forest areas so that the local communities can gain employment opportunities. He further stated that under the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme, beekeeping will be given priority and that the farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in the sector will be provided special subsidies.

The CM emphasised that beekeeping in the hill regions will be encouraged more vigorously and integrated with the rural economy to generate sustainable livelihoods. He described it as a strong medium of self-employment that not only enhances local income but also contributes to environmental conservation.
During the inspection, Dhami instructed horticulture in-charge Deepak Purohit to ensure the planting of suitable floral and pollen-rich species in the residence complex to enable year-round honey production. He also directed the initiation of work on creating a “Three-B” garden, meaning bird-friendly, bee-friendly and butterfly-friendly, within the premises. Stressing the importance of such initiatives, he said that plantation drives based on the “Three-B” concept should be undertaken on occasions like World Environment Day and Harela festival. The CM added that these efforts would not only support environmental protection but also provide a sustainable boost to beekeeping and honey production, thereby giving new direction to the state’s economy.
