Dehradun, 5 Aug: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BVRC Purushottam today held a meeting with the representatives of recognised national political parties to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ lists and obtain their feedback. During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given to the parties regarding the ongoing hearing phase of SIR notices.
The CEO assured the political parties that every effort is being made to ensure that no citizen faces inconvenience during the SIR process. He informed that out of 24 lakh notices issued, nearly 19 lakh, amounting to 77 per cent, have already been delivered to voters through BLOs. He further stated that more than 93,000 applications under Form 6, 1,39,000 under Form 7 and over 40,000 under Form 8 have been received so far. He clarified that the applications under Form 7 are being verified at the ERO/AERO level and that the due action is being taken as per rules.
Explaining the claims and objections stage, he said that a voter may submit claims or objections in a maximum of five cases. If more cases arise in any area, the ERO will conduct proper verification and inquiry as per prescribed provisions. He added that booth level agents (BLAs) of the political parties may submit a maximum of 10 forms in a day, and if 30 forms are submitted during the revision period, the ERO will carry out verification and inquiry at his own level.
During the meeting, Purushottam directed all the districts that notices with minor discrepancies should be settled at the BLO level itself after verifying the documents so that citizens are not unnecessarily troubled. He emphasised that voters whose mapping has not been completed must be given special focus, with hearings conducted at the ERO/AERO level and action taken in accordance with rules.
