Chamoli, 11 Jun: A tragic road accident claimed at least four lives and left several others injured in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district after a taxi vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in the Deval area today.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred near Kunar Bend on the Deval-Ghes motor road. The commercial Bolero vehicle was travelling from Deval towards Ghes when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near the bend, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a deep gorge.
Passers-by immediately informed the police about the accident. On receiving the information, the police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Rescuers descended into the gorge and began relief and evacuation work under challenging conditions.
All the occupants of the vehicle were shifted to the Primary Health Centre at Deval with the assistance of the 108 ambulance service. Doctors declared four persons dead on arrival, while four others who sustained injuries in the accident are undergoing treatment.
SHO Vinod Chaurasia said that a police team was dispatched to the site immediately after receiving information about the accident and rescue operations were initiated without delay. He added that the rescue mission was particularly difficult due to the accident site being located in a deep gorge.
