Dehradun, 19 Jun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today participated in the ‘Run for Yoga’ programme organised at the Police Lines in Dehradun to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga.

Addressing the participants on this occasion, the CM observed that the event is not merely a run but a strong campaign aimed at promoting healthy living, positive thinking and taking the message of yoga to every section of society. He said the programme was an important initiative towards creating awareness about yoga and building a healthier society.

Dhami said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has, for centuries, been the land of yoga, spiritual practices and penance of sages and saints. He observed that the State’s rich spiritual heritage and natural environment continue to inspire humanity with the message of health, balance and positive living. He described yoga as India’s ancient cultural legacy and a scientific, practical system that establishes harmony between the body, mind and soul.

The CM also noted that yoga has gained global recognition due to the visionary leadership and efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that following the Prime Minister’s proposal at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, June 21 was recognised as the International Day of Yoga. Today, he said, millions of people in more than 190 countries across the world practise yoga.

Highlighting the growing relevance of yoga in modern times, Dhami said that amid increasing stress, depression and various health-related challenges, yoga has emerged as an effective medium for achieving a healthy and balanced life. He urged the youth to make yoga and physical exercise a regular part of their daily routine, adding that healthy, energetic and disciplined young people form the foundation of a bright future for both the State and the nation.

The CM further asserted that the State Government is continuously working to establish Uttarakhand as a global hub for yoga, Ayurveda, wellness and naturopathy. He said that, through the new Yoga Policy, efforts are being made to encourage yoga and meditation centres, provide support to yoga trainers and create new employment opportunities in the yoga and wellness sectors.

On this occasion, Dhami also appealed to all the citizens to adopt yoga in their daily lives, follow a healthy and disciplined lifestyle, contribute towards building a drug-free society and help spread the message of yoga among the masses. He expressed confidence that the youth of Uttarakhand would play a significant role in transforming yoga into a mass movement and contribute to the creation of a healthy, prosperous and strong Uttarakhand.

Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, MLA Vinod Chamoli, Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, Ayush Secretary Ranjana Rajguru, Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan and Senior Superintendent of Police Parmendra Dobal were among those present on the occasion.
