Pauri Garhwal, 19 Jun: Following the approval of the Satpuli Lake project, a dream initiative of Cabinet Minister and Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj, the e-tendering process for the proposed Syunsi Barrage and Lake Project in Bironkhal Block of Chaubattakhal Assembly Constituency has commenced. The project is estimated to cost Rs 123.41 crore. Satpal Maharaj stated that, in response to the long-standing demand of local residents and under the Chief Minister’s announcement programme, the proposed multipurpose Syunsi Barrage and reservoir project on the Eastern Nayar River in Bironkhal Block, Pauri Garhwal district, is set to be implemented soon. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for supporting the project.

The proposed barrage will be constructed downstream of the Bangar Suspension Bridge near Syunsi Market on National Highway-121, approximately 135 kilometres from the district headquarters. The structure is planned to be 6 metres high and 60 metres wide, with six gates measuring 10 metres by 6.5 metres each. Upon completion, the barrage will create a reservoir extending approximately 0.7 kilometres in length.

Maharaj said the project has been designed to promote irrigation, drinking water supply, fisheries, boating, and tourism in the region. Once completed, it is expected to provide irrigation benefits to around 44 hectares of agricultural land and ensure a reliable drinking water supply to 56 villages. The project will also contribute significantly to water conservation and groundwater recharge.

He further stated that the hydraulic and structural designs for the project have been prepared by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. The project also includes a proposed two-lane bridge and two-lane approach road connecting Bangar village to National Highway-309, thereby improving access to healthcare, education, and emergency services for residents of Bangar, Mangrau, and other settlements located on the right bank of the Eastern Nayar River.

Maharaj stated that the proposal for the Rs 123.41 crore project has been submitted to the government for approval. The process of obtaining administrative and financial sanctions is currently underway, and the e-tendering process has been initiated in anticipation of the final approvals.
