Dehradun, 24 Jun: The University secured impressive positions in India SDG rankings, placing 5th in India for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), 7th for SDG 13 (Climate Action), 16th for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), and 21st for SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), placing it among the country’s top-performing institutions in sustainability.
Uttaranchal University has achieved a significant milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, improving its overall global position from the 801-1000 band in 2025 to the 601-800 band in 2026, marking a notable 200-band jump in the rankings released on June 24, 2026.
The achievement is particularly noteworthy as the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026 assessed over 1,600 universities from 116 countries and regions against the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The accomplishment places Uttaranchal University among India’s leading higher education institutions featured in the rankings, along with NITs, prominent public universities, and reputed private universities. The University has also ranked ahead of several established institutions, reflecting its growing global standing and commitment to sustainable development.
Expressing his happiness over the achievement, President Jitender Joshi said, “This recognition reflects our commitment to academic excellence and meaningful societal impact.”
Vice President Ankita Joshi said, “The ranking is a result of the collective efforts of our students, faculty members, and staff towards sustainability and innovation.”
Vice Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi stated, “This achievement highlights our focus on quality education, impactful research, and the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The University leadership acknowledged the contribution of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in strengthening quality benchmarks, promoting data-driven institutional practices, enhancing collaborations, and improving research and academic outcomes. They congratulated Er Rajesh Deorari (Director, IQAC), Er Sudhir Jugran (Assistant Manager, IQAC), university officials, faculty members, students, and staff for their collective efforts in securing this global recognition.
The achievement reinforces Uttaranchal University’s commitment to sustainable development, research excellence, community impact, and responsible institutional growth while contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
