Champawat, 26 Jun: Champawat police achieved a major success in the ongoing campaign against narcotics with the arrest of a trafficker carrying 253 grams of smack valued at Rs 75 laksh in the international market. The arrest was made in the Tanakpur area yesterday where the police and the Special Operations Group conducted a joint checking drive. During the operation, a 21-year-old youth named Tasleem Mansoori was apprehended with the contraband and has been booked under the NDPS Act at Kotwali Tanakpur.
According to the police, the accused was attempting to smuggle the smack to Brahmadev Mandi in Nepal. Last evening, a team led by SOG in-charge Prakash Bhatt and SI Tej Kumar of Manihargoth outpost intercepted a suspect near Bichai Tiraha. On being challenged, the man tried to flee but was caught. He identified himself as Tasleem Mansoori, resident of Meena Bazaar, Banbasa. A search revealed 253 grams of smack in his possession.
Under the ‘Drugs Free Devbhoomi Campaign’ initiated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Champawat police have intensified their drive against narcotics. As part of Operation Prahar, the joint team of Kotwali Tanakpur and SOG carried out a thorough checking operation on 24 June 2026. During the search near the railway track in Manihargoth, the suspect was found sitting on a motorcycle and was taken into custody. Police recovered 253 grams of smack, a Hero Splendour motorcycle without a number plate, Rs 900 in cash and a mobile phone.
The arrested accused revealed during interrogation that he procured the smack from Hari Singh of Pilibhit and sold it to addicted youths in the area. Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and launched a search for Hari Singh, who has been named in the case. Superintendent of Police Champawat Rekha Yadav is supervising the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, and further action is being taken against the accused.
