Dehradun/Muzaffarnagar, 30 Jun: After a prolonged legal battle spanning nearly three decades, the CBI court in Muzaffarnagar delivered its verdict in a case related to the Uttarakhand movement. The court convicted Brij Kishore, Anil Kumar and Umesh Chandra under sections 120B, 182, 211 and 218 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with section 25 of the Arms Act, sentencing them to one and a half years of imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 5,000.
The prosecution was effectively pursued by Dhara Singh Meena on behalf of the CBI, advocate Anshu Chaudhary representing the Uttarakhand Sangharsh Samiti, and senior prosecution officer Rink Verma on behalf of the Uttarakhand government. The case had remained pending for a long period, during which Uttarakhand state agitator Ravindra Jugran had consistently fought for justice, staying in close contact with the advocates and ensuring sustained efforts. His perseverance finally bore fruit as the verdict brought relief to the movement’s supporters.
Reacting to the judgement, Ravindra Jugran observed that today the people of Uttarakhand, the defenders of democracy and justice loving citizens of the nation, have found solace and healing for their wounds. He said that the judgment has provided long awaited justice to the state agitators and stands as a testament to their struggle and sacrifice.
