DEHRADUN, 24 Jul: Dr. Gaurav Luthra, Senior Cataract and Refractive Surgeon and Director at Drishti Eye Institute, Dehradun, was invited to present his latest work at the prestigious Annual Meeting of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) held recently in Taipei, Taiwan. The internationally renowned conference brought together leading refractive surgeons, cataract specialists, and vision science experts from across the globe to discuss the latest advances in refractive surgery for specs removal.
DEHRADUN, 24 Jul: Dr. Gaurav Luthra, Senior Cataract and Refractive Surgeon and Director at Drishti Eye Institute, Dehradun, was invited to present his latest work at the prestigious Annual Meeting of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) held recently in Taipei, Taiwan. The internationally renowned conference brought together leading refractive surgeons, cataract specialists, and vision science experts from across the globe to discuss the latest advances in refractive surgery for specs removal.
Hosted by the Taiwan Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the scientific meeting featured cutting-edge research, expert lectures, live discussions, and scientific exchanges by some of the world’s most respected ophthalmologists.
During the conference, Dr. Luthra delivered invited lectures on several advanced areas of refractive surgery, including ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery, SMILE laser vision correction, and Topography-Guided Laser surgery for Keratoconus. He shared his extensive clinical experience and discussed the latest innovations that are helping improve visual outcomes for patients.
Dr. Luthra highlighted that Drishti Eye Institute has consistently been at the forefront of introducing advanced eye care technologies in Uttarakhand. The institute was the first in Uttarakhand to introduce Topography-Guided Laser Vision Correction in 2005, setting new benchmarks in refractive surgery in the region. He also emphasized Drishti Eye Institute’s expertise in ICL surgery, with the institute being one of the first in India to introduce ICL Guru technology for perfect results with ICL phakic lenses earlier this year.
A major highlight of the meeting was Dr. Luthra’s induction into the International Council of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), a significant recognition of his contributions to refractive surgery and ophthalmology. His appointment reflects the growing international recognition of Indian ophthalmologists and their contribution to advancing global eye care.
During the conference, Dr. Luthra had the privilege of sharing the stage with pioneers such as Dr. Marguerite McDonald, who performed the world’s first Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Dr Gerd Auffarth, chief of David Apple lab in Heidelberg, Germany, Dr Uday Devgan, world renowned cataract surgeon from California, USA and Dr. Stephen Klyce, whose corneal topography research has played a pivotal role in modern refractive surgery.
Speaking about the experience, Dr. Luthra said, “It was a privilege to represent India at one of the world’s most prestigious refractive surgery meetings. Sharing our experience in ICL, SMILE, and Topography-Guided Laser Vision Correction while interacting with global leaders in ophthalmology was an enriching experience.”
