Mussoorie, 20 Aug: Congress workers in Mussoorie organised various events today to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. While the Mahila Congress conveyed a message of goodwill and unity by holding a bike rally amidst the rain, the birth anniversary was also celebrated at the Mussoorie Congress Bhawan.

During these events, Congress leaders and workers paid floral tributes before his portrait and recalled his contributions. The Mahila Congress bike rally passed through various parts of the town before reaching Gandhi Chowk. Despite the continuous rain, the enthusiasm of the workers remained undiminished. Upon reaching Gandhi Chowk, the workers offered floral tributes to the portrait of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, paying him a heartfelt homage. A pledge was taken to uphold the spirit of brotherhood, unity, and harmony in the country.

Meanwhile, at the event held at the Mussoorie Congress Bhawan, Congress workers highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s life and political journey. Speakers noted that Rajiv Gandhi played a pivotal role in the nation’s development and the building of a modern India. His tenure fostered a new vision in the fields of technology, communication, and education. The workers remarked that Rajiv Gandhi’s life serves as an inspiration for the youth; he had envisioned a modern and progressive nation. Speakers called upon everyone to follow the path he showed and to strengthen the country’s unity, integrity, and social harmony.

Mahila Congress President Jasbir Kaur stated that the objective of observing Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary as ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ is to spread the message of brotherhood and unity in society. She noted that, despite the rain, women participated in the bike rally in large numbers to express their reverence for Rajiv Gandhi. Congress workers emphasised that Rajiv Gandhi’s ideas and his vision for a modern India have become even more relevant in the current times. They urged the youth to draw inspiration from his life and move forward in the interest of the nation.

At the conclusion of the event, Congress workers pledged to follow the ideals and path shown by Rajiv Gandhi, to maintain social harmony, and to work towards the unity and integrity of the nation. Many individuals were present on this occasion, including Jot Singh Gunsola, Amit Gupta, Sudha Kandari, Sonam, Sunita Semwal, Kanta, Neha, Soni, Ganga, Vimla, Diksha, Geeta, Khushi, and Prakash.
