Dehradun, 21 Aug: BJP spokesman and Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli has accused Congress of politicising the Ankita Bhandari murder case and attempting to mislead the public by repeatedly raising doubts over the ongoing CBI investigation. He said Congress is demanding immediate publication of the probe report, which exposes its political intent, as any serious criminal investigation needs to follow a legal process and disclosure of facts before completion of the probe can compromise the inquiry.
Chamoli stressed that the CBI is an independent agency working strictly on the basis of evidence and law, not under any political pressure. He argued that Congress should submit any facts it claims to possess directly to the agency rather than trying to influence proceedings through media statements. He described Congress’s approach as insensitive and opportunistic, asserting that exploiting a tragic case for political gain is unjust to the victim’s family.
The BJP leader reminded that the state government had acted swiftly from the outset, arresting the main accused within 24 hours, forming an SIT under a woman DIG, invoking the Gangster Act and filing a 500‑page chargesheet based on scientific and digital evidence and over 100 witness statements. Effective prosecution had led to the court sentencing all the three convicts to life imprisonment, and on 19 August the High Court also rejected their bail pleas, showing the seriousness of the judicial process. The government also recommended a CBI probe at the family’s request and provided Rs 25 lakh assistance.
Chamoli said Congress continues to recycle old allegations despite clear action by the government and judiciary. He maintained that justice for Ankita is not a political slogan but a commitment to law and sensitivity towards a daughter of the state. He urged Congress to stop playing politics and allow the CBI to complete its independent investigation, so that facts emerge and the law takes its course.
