Dehradun, 4 Sep: BJP today accused Congress of attempting to inflame caste-based politics in Uttarakhand, warning that such divisive efforts will not succeed in the land of social harmony. State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt said that the party will spread the message of unity and it will ensure that the flames of division do not take hold in Devbhoomi. He cited incidents such as false claims in the Haldwani episode, linking caste to tea cups and instructions to burn Manusmriti as clear signs of Congress’s malicious intent.

In this connection, Bhatt today chaired an online meeting with the district party presidents and in-charges to prepare for the Social Harmony Pledge Dharna scheduled for 7 September. He also shared with the media persons that BJP, as a responsible political party, is committed to maintaining social harmony in the state. He described Congress’s attempts to portray Dalit insult through fabricated narratives as damaging to the social fabric. He said that the party workers will hold peaceful dharnas at Ambedkar statues and portraits to counter caste-based discord and to strengthen the spirit of unity.

He alleged that Congress and Rahul Gandhi are deliberately pushing a false narrative despite the fact that no caste-based purification ritual took place in Haldwani. He added that linking everyday practices to caste and issuing directives to burn Manusmriti reflect a desperate strategy of a party broken by repeated defeats. Quoting Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Bhatt cautioned that playing with sparks is dangerous and those who dream of setting others’ houses on fire end up burning their own. He asserted that while Congress may divide itself through caste politics, and that the Uttarakhand people will never be divided and will hold Congress accountable in the 2027 elections.
