Dehradun, 8 Sep: Students of Gurukul Kangri University’s Dehradun campus have again raised a series of complaints against the university administration, alleging mismanagement, arbitrary decisions and a lack of concern for their academic future. In a memorandum submitted to the interim Vice Chancellor, the students have sought immediate intervention, alleging that a series of administrative decisions have disrupted academic activities at the campus and created uncertainty among students.
The latest complaints have beeen raised as the students continue to be concerned over the functioning and future of the Dehradun campus. Garhwal Post has covered the concerns of the students as well as of the teachers and other employees in the recent past regarding proposed changes in its functioning, transfer of courses and teachers to Haridwar and other administrative issues. The students have now alleged that the continuous transfer of teachers from the Dehradun campus to Haridwar is adversely affecting the classes and disrupting academic continuity.
According to the students, teachers who were earlier available at the Dehradun campus are being transferred to Haridwar, leaving students facing difficulties in attending regular classes and completing their academic requirements. They alleged that instead of resolving the problems being faced by students, the university administration is taking decisions that are further weakening the functioning of the Dehradun campus.
The students have also alleged that those who have already taken admission are being pressured to withdraw their fees and leave the college. They said such a situation had created serious uncertainty about their academic future, as they have already invested considerable time and money in pursuing their courses at the Dehradun campus.
In a separate complaint, students of the MSc Zoology course have sought the refund of tuition, admission, counselling, and registration fees, along with interest, after being reportedly informed that the course is being closed down. The students have made it clear that they do not wish to shift to any other subject or course offered by the university and have argued that compelling them to opt for an alternative course would adversely affect their academic and professional future.
The MSc Zoology students have alleged that the situation has arisen because of what they described as wrong policies of the university administration. They questioned how students who had been admitted after completing the prescribed admission process could be left in the lurch because of subsequent administrative decisions to discontinue their course. They have demanded that the tuition fee, registration fee and admission fee, etc., paid by them be returned in full, along with interest, rather than being asked to pursue a different course.
The students have also raised concerns over facilities at the campus and hostel. Among the complaints is an allegation that some girl students were allotted toilets meant for boys. The students described the arrangement as humiliating and unsafe and questioned the manner in which basic facilities were being managed on the campus.
The students have alleged arbitrary and unjust decisions being taken by the University administration, including the closure of courses, transfer of teachers and alleged lapses in the provision of basic facilities. They have maintained that such decisions cannot be taken without considering their impact on students who have already secured admission and planned their academic careers accordingly.
The students have also urged the interim Vice Chancellor to intervene urgently and ensure that their academic interests are protected. They have warned that, if their grievances are not addressed immediately, they would be compelled to launch an agitation against the university administration. They have also held the university administration responsible for any untoward incident that may arise if the present situation is allowed to continue. The students have called for corrective measures at the earliest, maintaining that the credibility of the university and the academic future of students cannot be compromised because of unjust administrative decisions.
