Dehradun, 9 Sep:
Arjuna Awardee and Paralympic badminton player Manoj Sarkar said that disability is not a limitation to a person’s capabilities, but an opportunity to recognise their hidden and unique abilities. What is needed is simply to believe in their talent and potential.

He was addressing a guest lecture on the topic, “Turning Challenges into Opportunities for Success” held today at Graphic Era Hill University. Manoj Sarkar said that a change in the way people perceive persons with disabilities should begin with the family. Families should make children believe that they are no less than anyone else and can pursue their interests in any field of their choice. He said that it is the responsibility of society and the government to provide them with the necessary support, facilities and a conducive environment. We must also develop a system where every individual can become self-reliant by utilising their abilities while having equal opportunities.

Vice Chancellor Dr Narpinder Singh said that disability is not inability but a major challenge created by society. Persons with disabilities should be provided respect, encouragement, accessibility and equal opportunities. He called upon educational institutions to create an inclusive environment and students to include their peers with disabilities equally in every activity.

The guest lecture was organised by the School of Commerce of Graphic Era Hill University. Head of the School of Commerce Dr Roopa Khanna, faculty members and students attended the programme.
