UJJAIN, (MP) 19 Sep: Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Saturday inaugurated the new Pharmaceutical API and Intermediates manufacturing facility of JK Lifecare Centres in Ujjain. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr Mohan Yadav was also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the Governor said that self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector is an important foundation for India’s health security and a reliable supply of medicines. To realise the vision of a developed India, it is essential not only to have a robust healthcare system but also to continuously strengthen the country’s domestic manufacturing capacity for essential medicines and their key components.
Lt Gen Singh said that the real strength of any pharmaceutical unit lies not merely in its machinery and production capacity, but in its scientists, engineers, technicians and trained human resources. Continuous training, skill development and a scientific outlook are crucial foundations for the long-term success of the sector.
The Governor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set before the country the goal of building a developed India by 2047. A self-reliant pharmaceutical capacity will play an important role in achieving this objective. Strong domestic manufacturing capabilities will enhance India’s health security and further strengthen the country’s role in the global pharmaceutical supply chain.
He said that the facility established in Ujjain is an important initiative towards developing research-driven manufacturing capabilities, ensuring the availability of essential pharmaceutical inputs, and creating new opportunities for employment and skill development for the youth. Such industries can serve as a strong bridge between knowledge and employment for young people with education and training in pharmacy, chemistry, biosciences, engineering and technical fields.
The Governor also emphasised environmental responsibility alongside industrial development. He said that maintaining a balance between production and environmental protection, judicious use of resources and adoption of safe processes are essential requirements of modern industry. The success of industries becomes more meaningful when their benefits reach the local community, opportunities are created for local youth, and new possibilities emerge for ancillary industries.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh also congratulated the scientists, engineers, technicians, employees, project partners and all institutions associated with the project. He said that behind the success of any major project lies the hard work, dedication and cooperation of numerous people.
