Dehradun, 24 Oct: At Graphic Era, experts said that Himalayan textiles are the heartbeat of the mountains, with every thread woven with the skill to withstand icy winds and the experience of generations. The warmth of wool and pashmina, the strong fibres of hemp and nettle, and the colourful patterns carved on the loom make these textiles suited to the harsh conditions of high altitudes.
Speaking at the concluding session of the seminar on “Himalayan Textiles: Tradition, Technology and Sustainable Future” held today at Graphic Era Hill University, Special Guest Gopesh Kumar Maurya, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), said that Uttarakhand’s handicraft tradition is the backbone of the state’s cultural identity and livelihood.
A total of 13 research papers were presented at the seminar. Along with representatives from New York and the United Kingdom, research scholars from across the country joined online and presented their research papers and abstracts.
The seminar was jointly organised by the University’s Fashion Designing Department, the Textiles and Clothing Research Centre, and the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD), Jaipur. Registrar Dr Jyoti Chhabra, faculty members and students attended the seminar.
