Srinagar, 17 Nov: At a press conference convened here, today, Congress State President Karan Mahara claimed that HUME pipes were being laid in the tunnel after the incident, whereas they ought to have been laid alongside the construction of the tunnel.
He said that this was evidence of the huge level of negligence on part of the construction agency as well as the government. He further alleged that the families of the people trapped in the tunnel are being mistreated outside the tunnel. He raised the question as to why work was being done inside the tunnel on Diwali, when it was a holiday. He also alleged lack of coordination among the officials during the rescue work in the tunnel.
Mahara claimed that the government is making plan after plan to save the 40 labourers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel but, even now, the workers have not been rescued from the harsh conditions inside the tunnel.
