Dehradun, 4 Jan: Deputy Forest Conservator Mahatim Yadav met Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Thursday and gave a presentation regarding forest fire management.
Mahatim Yadav, while being DFO of Almora, prepared a research document to deal with forest fires, which he presented before the Governor. He described how forests have been saved in the Syahidevi area of Almora due to public cooperation and departmental coordination. He also mentioned the challenges faced during the forest fires in 2022. The Governor appreciated the presentation.
The Governor said that forest fires are a big challenge. Concrete solutions are needed to deal with them. Every year, forest wealth suffers huge losses due to fires, which are also responsible for global warming. He said that more than 70 percent area in Uttarakhand is covered with forests, the maximum efforts should be made to preserve them with public cooperation. He said that there is a need for this type of research so that there can be success in stopping forest fires.
