Mussoorie, 26 May: The tourism season has started in Mussoorie. The administration is keeping an eye on all the preparations to ensure that the tourists do not face any kind of problem. From time to time, the SDM has instructed all the officers concerned to have all the works completed before the start of the tourist season. However, the Public Works Department officials are flouting the instructions of the SDM, Dr Deepak Saini.
Last year, 10 metres of the Mall Road was damaged by the Public Works Department, but unfortunately its reconstruction has not been completed, as yet.
Due to this, there is anger among the people. Former municipal presidents of Mussoorie, OP Uniyal, Upendra Thapliyal, Ravindra Singh said that it is unfortunate that even after the instructions of the SDM, the officials of the Public Works Department are not able to construct a 10 metre stretch of the Mall Road. The situation has resulted in regular traffic jams on Mall Road.
They said that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi are working under several schemes to develop Mussoorie from a tourism point of view and more than Rs 7 crores are being spent on making improvements to the Mall Road. Money has been spent but the careless officials of the Public Works Department are not paying any attention to this. The Public Works Department has not been complete the job even after more than a year.
Strict action has been sought against negligent public works officials. On the other hand, Rajendra Pal, Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department, said that work is being done continuously on the road. Due to excessive vehicle movement and crowds of people in Mall Road, work is not being done during the day. He said that the 10 metre stretch will soon be ready.
