New Delhi- Dehradun, 13 Aug: In a unique movement, “Rakhi for Soldiers”, that began eight years ago, former RS MP Tarun Vijay has been able to send more than 2.5 lakh rakhis for the armed forces posted in border areas like Siachin to Tawang and Jaisalmer this year also.

His move has been appreciated by the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary, who he met and conveyed his good wishes for the Air Warriors. The Army Chief’s office has also come forward to take rakhis for the frontline posts. As many as 1.26 lakh rakhis are being taken by special army planes to the border areas for soldiers well in advance.

These ralkhis are handmade by thousands of young girl students from Uttarakhand’s  schools to Tamilnadu’s Bharani Vidyalaya under the leadership of its Rashtrapati Award winner, Principal Ram Subramanyam. He also is the national convenor of Students and Youth for Thiruvalluvar, founded by Tarun Vijay.

The tribal school students in Dehradun, who come from northeastern states like Arunachal to Manipur and Assam, also contribute to this Rakhi movement making it a truly national endeavour of love and brotherly bond with the bravehearts of the armed forces.

Group Captain Paramjit Singh Lamba coordinated the air lifting and distribution of 1.26 lakh rakhis for the Air Warriors posted on frontier posts, while Lt Col Vivek Tripathi from Chief of the Army Staff coordinated the Rakhis’ air dispatch for forward areas.
