Nursing Students, Staff informed about Palliative Care at Himalayan Hospital

Dehradun, 13 Aug: A Palliative Care Awareness Programme was organised at the Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant. Nursing students and staff were informed about palliative care during the event.

The event was organised by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Pain Management of the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jolly Grant, at the Cancer Research Institute. The Chief Guest, Dr Sunil Saini, Director of the Cancer Research Institute, stated that Palliative Care has become an integral part of caring for seriously ill patients. It provides holistic care by addressing the physical, emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects of, both, the patients and their families. He also shared information about the Palliative Care provided to seriously ill and cancer patients at the hospital’s Cancer Research Institute.

Dr Gurjit Khurana, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Pain Management, emphasised the need to conduct such awareness programmes among, both, medical professionals and the community. He also stressed the importance of providing these services to both cancer and non-cancer patients. During the event, a poster competition and a brainstorming quiz were organised on the concepts and components of Palliative Care.

Dr Priya Ramakrishnan and Dr Priyanka Mishra expressed their gratitude to everyone. The event was attended by CRI Medical Superintendent Dr Abhishek Kandwal, Vice Principal of Nursing College Dr Kamli Prakash, and Nursing Superintendent Reena Habil.
