Dehradun, 30 Oct: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBS University) commemorated World Statistics Day by hosting an expert lecture, titled “Unlocking the Potential of Statistics in Research”. The event, held on 26 October, emphasised the significance of reliable statistics in promoting sustainable development, transparency, and informed decision-making.
The lecture featured Dr Rajiv Pandey, Scientist F, Head of Forestry Statistics, and Public Information Officer (PIO) at the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun, as the resource person. Over 100 students, faculty members, and data enthusiasts attended the insightful session.
In his opening address, Prof (Dr) J Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SBS University, underscored the importance of statistics in daily life and scientific research. He emphasised its role in forming a foundation for sound decision-making, comprehending patterns, and gleaning insights from intricate phenomena.
Dr Pandey’s keynote address delved into the transformative role of statistical analysis in advancing research methodologies, particularly in environmental and chemical sciences. His captivating presentation showcased real-world applications, and the exciting possibilities unlocked by statistical innovations.
The event witnessed the presence of Prof (Dr) J Kumar, Prof. (Dr) Deepak Sahni (Registrar), Dr Vipin Kumar Jain (Dy Registrar, HR & Laison), Dr Neetu Pandey (Incharge, School of Applied Chemistry and Basic Sciences), and Prof Atul Kaushik, along with faculty members.
Dr Deepa Mishra successfully organised and coordinated the event. Mukul Kr Chakraverty concluded the session with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the organising team’s efforts and Dr Pandey’s valuable insights. Ritu Raj Negi and Ashutosh (M.Sc. Chemistry 3rd Semester) moderated the event.
