Cultural programmes postponed in view of Almora Bus Accident

Dehradun, 4 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today declared that all programmes related to the State Formation Day (9 November) will now be celebrated with simplicity this year. The Chief Minister has taken this decision in the wake of the tragic bus accident in Marchula on Monday, in which 36 passengers died and many others were injured.
Dhami announced that all cultural programmes proposed for 8 November to commemorate State Formation Day have been postponed and only programmes related to the Sewa and sanitation drives will be organised across the state. Cultural programmes will also not be organised during the major functions, inaugurations, and foundation stone-laying functions related to the State Formation Day.

This decision was announced by the CM during a meeting with officials held at the Secretariat, today, the CM also directed the officials to undertake an urgent assessment where additional buses are needed in the hills in order to prevent overloading of buses. Dhami said that adequate arrangements should be made in those areas by purchasing new vehicles as per the requirement. In view of the festivals, additional arrangements should also be made in areas where it is assessed that there is a need for additional buses. It should be ensured that such incidents do not recur.
Dhami also reiterated that crash barriers should be installed on the roads for safety. He directed that the officers who are negligent in this work should be held accountable and action taken against them. He also said that the state government will take responsibility for the care and education of Shivani, who has been orphaned in the bus accident having lost her parents, so that her education and progress are not adversely affected due to loss of parents. The CM further stated that the responsibility of the outpost in-charges concerned in the vehicle accident should be fixed and action should be taken against them.
Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu, Secretaries Shailesh Bagoli and Vinay Shankar Pandey, ADG AP Anshuman, and DG Information Banshidhar Tiwari were among those present on this occasion.
