Dehradun, 13 Nov: The 3rd Mrs Maisie Sookias Memorial Inter-School English Debate- Symposium 2024 was held at The Heritage School, here, today. Twelve reputed schools of the city took part in this prestigious debate.
The event was judged by Dean, Academics, at Cambrian Hall, Dr Annie Singh, who has been a Psychology and English teacher for three decades. The second judge was social activist Indrani Pandhi. The programme began with the presentation of bouquets to the Judges.
School Principal Dr Anju Tyagi and Counsellor Charu Chaudhary were also present on the occasion.
The topic debated was – Damage caused by AI outweighs its benefits. The House witnessed rhetorical skills of the debaters during the debate. Dr Annie Singh said that the points were put up very nicely by the debaters. She added that if one is overconfident then one becomes dramatic. She reasoned that we should not be slave of technology.
The Asian School was the winner of the English debate symposium. The runners-up teams were Ann Mary School and St Joseph’s Academy. Mansi Khanduri of Ann Mary School was declared best speaker for the motion and Ranvijay Singh of The Asian School was adjudged best speaker against the motion.
Speaking on the occasion, Indrani Pandhi said, “All of you are winners. The spirit of participation is very important.” She opined that it was a very enriching debate. Principal of The Heritage School Dr Anju Tyagi said debates foster empathy and build communication skills. She urged students to strive for perfection and to never quit. Principal Dr Anju Tyagi and Counsellor Charu Chaudhary felicitated the escort teachers. The Judges were felicitated by the Principal Dr Tyagi by presenting mementos. At the end of the programme, school faculty Aishwarya H Charan proposed the vote of thanks.
