Dehradun, 13 Nov: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in the ‘Igas’ festival organised by the Dhad Foundation at the Raj Bhavan, here, today. The Dhad Foundation has been dedicated to preserving the language, culture, literature, and social works of the Uttarakhand Himalayas for the past four decades. Under its ‘Rehabilitation’ programme, the foundation assists in the education of children affected by natural disasters. Through this initiative, common people take responsibility for the education of children who have lost their families due to disasters. Over the past 11 years, the Dhad Foundation has contributed to the education of more than 200 children.
On this occasion, the Governor emphasised that it is essential to keep traditional festivals alive to preserve culture. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in these local festivals and celebrate them with enthusiasm. Additionally, he stressed the importance of educating children about traditions and culture. He said that folk festivals and the rich cultural heritage play a vital role in keeping social life vibrant. The Governor noted that celebrating the Igas festival with grandeur in the villages will strengthen the connection of the people of Uttarakhand to their roots.
The Governor also praised the efforts of the Dhad Foundation for the educational rehabilitation of disaster-affected children in Uttarakhand. During the event, the Governor interacted warmly with the children present. He motivated them to dream big and set high goals in life, emphasising that hard work and determination are key to achieving any objective. He wished the children a bright future and blessed them for their endeavours.
The event was attended by the Central President of the Dhad Foundation, Lokesh Nawani, Senior Vice President DC Bhatt, Chief Coordinator Jagmohan Rawat, along with other office bearers of the foundation, children, and their families.
