Dehradun, 25 Nov: Experts called upon students to make new discoveries to deal with natural disasters with the help of technology.

A workshop on Landslide Using Earth Observational Data has started at Graphic Era Deemed University. This workshop will run for six days. Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop as the Chief Guest, Dr RP Singh, Director, Indian Remote Sensing Institute, ISRO, said that new technologies are bringing revolutionary changes in dealing with natural disasters. These technologies not only monitor bad weather but also warn about disasters like landslides, cyclones in advance. He said that there are many reasons for landslides in the state, but the biggest reason is the increasing population. Landslides are happening due to more construction on the mountains. While telling the students about Earth Observational Data, he said that with its help, they will be able to know the factors of natural disasters as well as how to deal with them and understand the challenges. He asked the students to preserve natural resources.

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing scientist Dr NR Patel said that Uttarakhand is as beautiful as it is full of challenges, whether it is landslide or flood disaster. Dr Patel said that, before dealing with this, it is necessary to know why these disasters are occurring repeatedly. For this, it is necessary that the youth do research in these areas. He said that this is not only the work of the technical field, society is also involved in it. People should take precautions at their level so that the environment can be saved from damage.

Graphic Era Deemed University Vice Chancellor Dr Narpinder Singh said that climate change is a big problem of the coming times. For this, it is necessary that as many trees as possible are planted.

The workshop was organised by the Civil Engineering and Petroleum Engineering Departments of Graphic Era Deemed University in collaboration with ISRO. HOD of Civil Engineering Dr KK Gupta, HOD of Petroleum Engineering Dr Virendra Bahadur Singh, Convener Dr KS Rawat, Dr Deepshikha Shukla, Dr Sanjeev Kumar and students were present in the workshop.
