Dehradun, 5 Dec: The first feature film in the Jaunsari language, “Mairai Gaon Ki Baat”, premiered today at Centrio Mall, here, marking a historic moment for the Jaunsar Bawar region and its culture. With this screening, the Jaunsari language from Uttarakhand has earned a permanent place in the global cinema record. While films in Garhwali and Kumaoni languages have been made in Uttarakhand, this is the first time a film in Jaunsari, a local dialect of the region, has been produced for the big screen. Though a few small films in CD format were made earlier, experiencing the culture and language of the region on a cinema hall’s big screen is a completely different and exciting experience.
The screening of “Mairai Gaon Ki Baat” at Centrio Mall saw a large turnout of distinguished guests. Among those attending were Padma Shri awardees Narendra Singh Negi, Preetam Bharthvan, Kalyan Singh Rawat, and RK Jain. Other notable attendees included Chakrata MLA Preetam Singh, film director Anuj Joshi, the film’s presenter KS Chauhan, former minister Narayan Singh Rana, and senior journalists like Manoj Ishtal. Additionally, members of the Press Club and several community leaders, were also present to support this momentous occasion.
