Dehradun/New Delhi, 5 Jan: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated as the Chief Guest at the annual conference of Rotary District 3001 held in New Delhi on Sunday. On this occasion, he appreciated the social service initiatives undertaken by the Rotary Club.
In his address, the Governor stated that Rotary Club is a platform dedicated to service and philanthropy, continuously striving for the upliftment of the weaker, deprived, and needy sections of society. He praised the remarkable work done by the members of Rotary District 3001 in areas such as health, education, sanitation, maternal and child health, disease prevention, economic development, and the establishment of peace.
The Governor emphasised that, in Indian culture, service holds the highest place. He stated that the spirit of service promotes unity, harmony, and brotherhood in society. He also appreciated the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self”, calling it a source of inspiration for society.
The Governor particularly highlighted the community development programmes undertaken by Rotary, such as blood banks, eye banks, cancer hospitals (AIIMS), vocational centres, skill development centres, and dialysis centres, as milestones for the welfare of the weaker sections of society. He said that these initiatives are empowering society and assisting those in need.
