Dehradun, 13 Jan: In a remarkable operation, Dehradun Police have successfully dismantled a child trafficking gang, leading to the rescue of a 2yearold boy who had been kidnapped and sold for ₹2 lakh. Four individuals have been arrested, while one main accused was not caught yet. The SSP of Dehradun has announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the team.
The SSP of Dehradun Ajay Singh conducted a press conference and shared that an incident was came to light on January 2 this year. Reena, a mentally unstable woman from Yamuna Colony in Dehradun, reported at the Kotwali Cantt police station that her two young sons, Akash (5) and Vikas (2), have been abducted.  The police quickly launched an investigation based on her complaint. During their inquiry, they discovered that a man named Rakesh, a frequent visitor at Reena’s home, was involved in the abduction. Upon investigation the police discovered that Rakesh, along with an elderly woman, had taken Reena and her children from Yamuna Colony on December 16, 2024. Although Rakesh later dropped Reena near her hometown in Bijnor, her children remained missing.
The breakthrough came in the case when Rakesh was seen leaving Reena’s older son, Akash, near Yamuna Colony on January 2, 2025. This suspicious movement prompted the police to intensify their surveillance on Rakesh. The police investigation revealed that Rakesh, a 52-yearold cleaner living in Dehradun, was part of a larger trafficking network that included Rahul, another cleaner, and his 20-yearold daughter, Tania. Together, they had sold Vikas to a couple, Priyanka (22) and Senti (25), in Dhampur, Bijnor, for Rs 2 lakh. The police tracked the suspects to Rahul’s aunt’s house in Amroha, where they arrested Rakesh and Tania. Following their interrogation, the police also arrested Priyanka and Senti, and Vikas was safely rescued from a family in Sarkathal Shivala, where he had been sold. Later Rakesh admitted his involvement in the kidnapping and sale of Reena’s children but also confessed to having sold his own two children in the past. Now, the police have arrested Rakesh, Tania, Priyanka, and Senti, but the hunt for the main accused, Rahul is on.  This operation was led by Inspector Kailash Chand Bhatt and his team. The SSP of Dehradun has announced a reward of ₹25,000 for the team’s efforts.
