Dehradun, 17 Jan: Doon University, in collaboration with IIT Roorkee and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, continued its 12-day Capacity-Building Programme, today, aimed at enhancing research and teaching capabilities. The eleventh day featured engaging presentations on research methodology outcomes and an insightful session on hypothesis formulation. Participants, grouped into teams of two or three, presented their research findings, which were evaluated by academicians Prof VK Singh, Head and Dean of Faculty of Management Studies, Gurukul Kangri, and Prof RP Mamgain, Head and Dean of Social Sciences, Doon University.

During the feedback session, Prof VK Singh emphasised five key areas to improve presentation skills: Aligning content and contestation with slides, including slide numbers for clarity, avoiding reliance on reading directly from slides, maintaining eye contact with the audience, using effective verbal communication as “the best way of disseminating knowledge is through tongue and mouth”.

Prof RP Mamgain congratulated the course director, Dr Sudhanshu Joshi, for successfully organising the programme and highlighted the importance of workshops for building professional networks. He also stressed the need for presentations to follow a coherent storyline and encouraged participants to publish their research in high-impact journals with broad accessibility. The session concluded with Prof HC Purohit, Dean of the School of Management, presenting mementos to Prof VK Singh and Prof RP Mamgain in appreciation of their valuable contributions. The post-lunch session, led by Prof SP Singh, Head of Department, IIT Roorkee, provided an in-depth discussion on hypothesis formulation. He began with fundamental concepts and progressed to advanced statistical techniques, equipping participants with a strong methodological foundation. The proceedings were moderated by Dr Hari Ram Prajapati from Banaras Hindu University, who facilitated seamless interaction among participants and speakers. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prashant Kumar from Gurukul Kangri, Haridwar, expressing gratitude to all contributors and participants. Faculty members from various institutions, including Prof Anupama Deshraj, Dr Parameshwari, Sanyogita Kumari, Dr Manoj, and research scholars such as Priya Tyagi, Hem Chandra Pathak, Naresh Kohli, Amit Bora, Binita and Anshika Upadhyay, actively participated in the day’s sessions.
