Athletics begins at 38th National Games, 10,000m Finals held in morning session

Dehradun, 8 Feb: The athletics events kicked off today at the 38th National Games being held in Uttarakhand. The morning session featured the finals of the men’s and women’s 10,000m races, in which athletes delivered outstanding performances.

In the men’s 10,000m race, Himachal Pradesh’s Sawan Barwal clinched the gold medal, completing the race in 28:49.93 minutes. Maharashtra’s Kiran Matre secured the silver medal with a time of 29:04.76 minutes, while Vinod Singh from Madhya Pradesh clocked 29:43.60 minutes to claim the bronze medal.

In the women’s 10,000m race, Maharashtra’s Sanjivani Jadhav emerged victorious, finishing in 33:33.47 minutes to secure the gold medal. Uttarakhand’s Ankita bagged the silver medal with a time of 34:31.03 minutes, while her state counterpart Soniya won the bronze medal with a timing of 35:45.19 minutes.

The excitement of the athletics competitions will continue in the evening session, featuring several key events across different categories.

Women’s Events: Discus Throw (1 kg); Pole Vault; 100m Race; 1500m Race. Men’s Events: Long Jump; 100m Race; Discus Throw (2 kg); 1500m Race.
