Dehradun, 10 Feb: A Janata Darshan programme was held in the Rishiparna Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Savin Bansal here today. A total of 130 complaints were heard during the public hearing, which lasted more than 5 hours. Most of the complaints were related to land issues.

In addition, complaints were also received related to various departments, including the Municipal Corporation, Electricity, Irrigation, and PWD.

During the Janata Darshan programme, the DM dispatched a team to the house of an elderly poor person in Raipur, whose house is in a dilapidated condition. Following the team’s report, financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh was proposed from the CM’s Relief Fund. In another case, a resident of Race Course, who operates a restaurant, complained that he was not being allowed to set up a shop. The DM directed the Assistant Labour Commissioner to take action and also instructed the Chief Treasurer to withhold one day’s salary for not attending the meeting.

A woman who had been struggling to obtain an electricity connection complained that she was not being provided any information. The DM instructed the electricity department officials to submit a reply within an hour. The officials responded that the electricity connection would be given after the security amount was deposited, and action was promised.

In another instance, a resident of Nehrugram, whose husband had died in a road accident in September 2024, explained that she was facing financial difficulties in educating her daughter. The DM assured her that arrangements would be made for her daughter’s education and discussed the provision of compensation according to road accident rules. Additionally, an insurance claim of Rs 1.60 crore for another woman, whose husband had died in a road accident abroad, was wrongly merged by a bank as an adjustment into a land loan taken in partnership. Taking this seriously, the DM wrote to the Senior Superintendent of Police to register a case.

Instructions were also given to register a case concerning the wastage of money in PWD roadworks in Chakrata and the beating of a complainant when he voiced his concerns. Numerous other complaints related to the Nagar Nigam were also addressed.
