Dehradun, 22 Feb: After the passage of the budget for various departments and the Appropriation Bill for the FY 2025-26, members raised the issues pertaining to their constituencies under Rule 54 of House proceedings to call the attention of the House and seek response from the ministers. Following this, the House was adjourned sine die by Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan.
Under Rule 54, Qazi Nizamuddin raised two issues. One related to dilapidated condition of government school buildings in many places in the state including in his own constituency, Manglaur in district Haridwar. He pleaded for reconstruction of the dilapidated buildings in the schools concerned.
Besides this, he also raised the issue of dilapidated condition of bridges over Ganga Canal.
Lansdowne MLA Dilip Singh Rawat raised the issue of various anomalies in the Forest Act and pleaded for pro-people changes in the Act, appealing to Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal to pursue this case with the Centre. Rawat said that due to arbitrary behaviour of forest officers, who get support from anti people provisions of Forest Act, development activities are not possible and even the existing roads and bridges are not allowed to be reconstructed. He also urged the government to make special efforts to not only protect the wildlife but also ensure people’s safety from wildlife.
Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal acceded that the demands are justified and cited certain efforts made by the state government to pursue the Centre to bring changes in the Forest Act.
After the discussion, the House was adjourned sine die.
