Rudrapur, 6 Mar: The 117th All India Farmers’ Fair will be inaugurated by former Governor of Maharashtra and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) in Pantnagar tomorrow. On this occasion, an exhibition of high-quality seeds, state-of-the-art agricultural machinery, and trees and plants will be organised at the fair for four days. The university has made all the necessary preparations for the widely popular annual Kisan Mela. Around 30,000 farmers are expected to attend the fair.

While the Mela will be inaugurated by Koshyari, Nainital MP and former Union Minister Ajay Bhatt and the Agriculture Minister of the state, Ganesh Joshi, will also participate in the farmers fair. According to the university officials, about 350 stalls displaying advanced seeds, modern machinery used in agriculture, flowers, fruits, and vegetable plants have been set up for the farmers.

Farmers from many states of the country, as well as from neighbouring country Nepal, will participate in the four-day fair. This time, university scientists will provide information about the option of off-season paddy cultivation. Additionally, farmers will be taught scientific farming techniques.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan shared that, at the fair, instead of focusing on off-season paddy cultivation, the team of scientists will also share with the farmers valuable information regarding other crops and viable options. Every day, one thousand farmers will be made aware of these options. He also mentioned that around 30,000 farmers are expected to attend the fair.
