Haldwani, 5 May: A tragic road accident occurred this afternoon in the remote Okhalkanda area of Nainital district, where a Bolero SUV carrying wedding guests plunged into a deep gorge. Three people lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries.
The accident took place on the Kaunta-Patrani motor road, where the vehicle reportedly went out of control and fell into the gorge. Local residents rushed to the scene upon receiving information and immediately began rescue operations.
Seven people were in the Bolero at the time of the accident. They were transported to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani via 108 ambulances. Doctors declared one woman and two men dead, while the condition of four others remains critical. Police and administrative teams have arrived at the site and are investigating the cause of the accident.
According to the officials, among the injured are Dayal, Dinesh, Paniram, Baram Ram, and Nandram. The rescue operation was carried out swiftly to provide medical assistance to the victims.
The local residents have expressed strong dissatisfaction over the recurring accidents in Okhalkanda. They claim that despite multiple incidents in the past, the district administration has failed to implement effective road safety measures. Poor road conditions, lack of safety barriers, and inadequate inspections continue to contribute to such tragedies.
