Dehradun, 1 Jul: On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day and to mark the 15th anniversary of the publication of Divya Himgiri, the ‘Doctor of the Year Award – 2025’ ceremony was organised at the Government Doon Medical College Auditorium, here, today.

The Chief Guest was Health and Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, and the Special Guest was Padma Shri awardee Dr BKS Sanjay. The event was presided over by Dr. Onkar Singh.

Chief Guest Dr Dhan Singh Rawat stated that, by the end of 2025, all vacant posts in government medical colleges would be filled.

Dr BKS Sanjay remarked that road accidents are now a leading cause of disability. These accidents have wreaked havoc across the state. Every year, around 1,500 accidents occur, leading to approximately 1,000 deaths. Dr Sanjay requested Dr Dhan Singh Rawat to incorporate road safety into the school education curriculum. If implemented, it would be a historic step, not just for the state but for the nation. The minister assured that road safety would soon become a part of the school curriculum.

Presiding over the event, Dr Onkar Singh said that the commercialisation of education and healthcare should not reach the extent that a section of society is deprived of its benefits. Director, Medical Education, Uttarakhand, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, stated that doctors should offer their services with a sense of selflessness to some extent, and society should appreciate their spirit of service. Other distinguished guests also appreciate the doctor’s contribution.
