Dehradun, 25 Jul: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a major increase in the ex-gratia grant for Param Vir Chakra awardees, raising the one-time amount to Rs 1.5 crores from the existing amount of Rs 50 lakhs. The announcement to this effect was made by him during the Sainik Samman Samaroh held in Khatima, organised on the death anniversary of his father, Subedar Sher Singh Dhami. In addition to this enhanced grant, recipients will also continue to receive an annual support of Rs 3 lakhs.
The officials claim that the decision reflects the CM’s deep respect and commitment towards the welfare of soldiers. It may be reminded here that, prior to June 2022, the ex-gratia amount for Param Vir Chakra recipients stood at Rs 30 lakhs. The Cabinet had approved an increase to Rs 50 lakhs on 10 June 2022, with a government order issued on 14 July the same year. The latest hike amounts to a direct hike of Rs 1 crore, significantly strengthening the financial recognition for gallantry in service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dhami underlined the critical role played by soldiers in securing the nation’s borders through their courage and sacrifice. He emphasised that honouring their dedication is not just a symbolic gesture but a collective responsibility of all concerned.
Recalling Uttarakhand’s legacy as, both, Devbhoomi and Veerbhumi, the CM asserted that the state has always produced exemplary soldiers whose lives embody discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering service. The government, he said, remains devoted to the welfare of serving personnel and veterans alike, and continues to take concrete decisions to safeguard their interests.
