Dehradun, 1 Aug: Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal inaugurated the new Integrated Control and Command Centre for smarter urban management here today. Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal was also present on this occasion. This newly established centre will facilitate real-time tracking of door-to-door garbage collection vehicles operating across all 100 wards of the city, eliminating arbitrary practices by drivers and ensuring improved accountability.
CCTV cameras have been installed at 54 strategic locations known for open garbage dumping, with live feeds monitored from the ICCC. Offenders found littering will be subject to penal action as part of the Corporation’s plan to maintaining cleanliness. The ICCC consolidates several functions previously managed by discrete teams under the health department, including disaster management, waterlogging mitigation, fogging activities, door-to-door waste collection, and operations at trenching grounds. The monitoring of these services was earlier overseen by a Project Management Consultancy (PMC), but recurring shortcomings led to the commencement and rollout of the ICCC system, supported by robust software infrastructure.
Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal shared with the media that Dehradun currently has 284 vehicles dedicated to door-to-door garbage collection, all of which will be tracked simultaneously through GPS enabled systems from the ICCC. In addition, 50 tractor trolleys and fogging vehicles, as well as trenching facilities at Sahastradhara and Sheeshamwada, will also come under its surveillance.
The ICCC is also tasked with real time monitoring of user charge collections across wards to ensure transparency and efficiency. Daily tracking of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, such as public awareness drives, source segregation efforts and removal of garbage-prone points, is built into its operational dashboard. The centre will report comprehensively on the distribution and usage of green and blue bins while evaluating ward-level segregation progress.
Further strengthening civic responsiveness, the ICCC will receive citizen complaints lodged via the Corporation’s mobile app and helpline numbers, enabling swift assignment and resolution through concerned officials. GPS-based tracking of vehicles will ensure service regularity and quality, while the data analytics capacity of the ICCC dashboard will support strategic decision-making, ultimately bolstering institutional efficiency.
Bansal emphasised that the ICCC marks an important step in aligning Dehradun’s municipal systems with the Smart City Mission. She added that the future plans include integrating the centre with modules for traffic management, water supply supervision and street light control, paving the way for Dehradun’s transformation into a modern, clean and efficiently managed urban centre.
