Dehradun, 4 Aug: Three men were trapped on a small island in the middle of the Tons River near Thakurpur, Premnagar, on Monday morning. Due to heavy rain, the water level of the river suddenly increased, and strong currents surrounded the island from both sides.
As soon as the information was received, teams from the Dehradun Police, SDRF, NDRF, and Fire Department rushed to the spot with rescue equipment. After two hours of continuous effort, all three men were rescued safely.
According to the police, the three men had come from Haridwar to Dehradun in the morning with Kanwar water to offer at a local temple during the holy month of Shravan. After offering the water, they were on their way to distribute prasad at a relative’s house and tried to cross the river on foot. However, they got stuck due to the sudden rise in water level.
Despite heavy rain and strong water flow, the rescue teams worked together efficiently and managed to bring all three men out unharmed. The operation was personally monitored by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, who continuously guided the rescue teams on the ground.
The rescued individuals have been identified as, Virendra Sahani (20), son of Sagar Sahani, resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Raj Kishore Sahani (27), son of Joginder Sahani, resident of Sukarhat Maidapur, Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Rakesh Sahani (20), son of Joginder Sahani, resident of Sukarhat Maidapur, Muzaffarpur, Bihar – currently living in Thakurpur, Premnagar, Dehradun.
