Dehradun, 27 Aug: District Magistrate Savin Bansal today reviewed the progress of pending cases in the Sessions and Additional Sessions Courts and directed government advocates to clearly state the reasons for delay and take immediate steps for their resolution so that criminal cases may be disposed of at the earliest.
Conducting a detailed review of the pendency of cases, the DM also examined the availability of witnesses, stages of trial in various cases, and overall progress of ongoing cases. He instructed the government lawyers to present evidence before the courts on time in every case and ensure the presence of witnesses in order to ensure timely disposal of the cases. He emphasised that special focus must be placed on criminal cases and that such cases should be pursued with complete evidence, witness support, and a sense of accountability. He further directed prompt action in those cases where charge-sheets have not yet been filed.
Bansal observed that timely punishment of the guilty is essential for strengthening law and order and underlined that the reasons for pendency must be clearly mentioned in court records to facilitate swift disposal. During the meeting, he reviewed in detail the total number of pending cases, their current status, the reasons for the delay, and possible solutions. He also announced that a review meeting on the progress of pending cases in courts will be held every month.
The Joint Director, Law, and District Government Advocate briefed the DM that 5 cases related to prisoners lodged in jail are under consideration along with 7 cases under the Gangster Court, 28 before the Sessions Court, 38 before the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court, 41 under FTSC, 19 under the NDPC Act, 81 related to the POCSO Act, 18 before the Additional Sessions Court, Vikasnagar, and 11 pending cases of Rishikesh. Hearings in all these cases are currently underway.
Among those present at the review meeting included Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Jai Bharat Singh, SDM Apoorva Singh, Joint Director, Law, Girish Chandra Pancholi, District Government Advocate (Criminal) GP Raturi, along with other officials.
