Minister Ganesh Joshi inspects disaster-affected areas

Dehradun, 17 Sept: Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, along with Public Works Department (PWD) officials, inspected the construction of a Bailey bridge at the damaged bridge site on Mussoorie Road. In addition, he visited Vijay Colony, Nashvilla Road, Bhandargaon, Gaziyawala, Indranagar, Galjwadi, Sarkhet, Makdeti, Kerwan village, and Kumalda village in Tehri district. During the inspection, the Minister assessed the damage caused by heavy rainfall and landslides, met with affected families, and assured them of all possible assistance.
The Minister issued necessary directions to officials, instructing them to immediately begin protective works in the affected areas. At Gaziyawala, he inspected the washed-out road and damaged bridge and directed PWD officials to expedite safety works and start reconstruction of the road without delay. He also instructed officers to restore electricity and water supply in the affected areas at the earliest opportunity to prevent inconvenience to the public.
During his visit to Makdeti village, Joshi handed over a financial assistance cheque to resident Ajay Kumar and also provided a ration kit to his family. It is noteworthy that Ajay Kumar lost his parents, Anil Kumar and Jaya Devi, in the recent disaster. The Minister also inspected the rain-damaged bridge at Kumalda village in Tehri district.
He emphasized that essential relief items such as food supplies, ration kits, and other necessary materials must be delivered promptly to the affected families. He directed officials to ensure clean drinking water, food, medical facilities, and alternative arrangements for children’s education at the relief camps. He further stressed on speeding up the repair of disasterdamaged roads and bridges to maintain connectivity to villages.
As per the Minister’s instructions, relief materials were delivered to the disasterhit residents of Phulet village under the Mussoorie Assembly constituency. Due to landslides and disrupted road connectivity, ration was air-dropped by helicopter to reach the affected villagers.
During the inspection, Brigadier Harish Sethi from the Army, PWD Superintendent Engineer OP Singh, along with officials from the Irrigation and Jal Nigam departments, were present. Also present were District Panchayat Member Veer Singh Chauhan, MLA representative Kiran, Gram Pradhan Harikala Poon, Anuj Kaushal, Arvind Choupal, Gram Pradhan Rakesh Jawadi, former Councillor Sunder Singh Kothal, Madan Singh Pundeer, Dheeraj Thakur, former Pradhan Leela Sharma, Kedar Joshi, Sapna Mall, Sanjay Sharma, Mandal President Rajeev Gurung, Manjeet Rawat, and several local residents.
