Dehradun, 17 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today inaugurated the Swachh Utsav-2025 programme from Gandhi Park here, to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. On the occasion, he extended warm birthday greetings to Modi. The CM also prayed for his long and healthy life and conveyed his wishes to the people of the state on Vishwakarma Jayanti.

Inaugurating the cleanliness campaign, the CM sent out a message of cleanliness by sweeping the road and appealed to residents to join the campaign in large numbers. He also shared that regular cleanliness-related activities would be organised across the state from 17 September to 2 October. During the event, the CM also paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located at Gandhi Park and administered the cleanliness pledge. He also planted a sapling, flagged off a cleanliness chariot and also felicitated sanitation workers on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami underlined that, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the cleanliness movement has acquired new dimensions in the country. Swachh Utsav-2025, he emphasised, is not merely an event but a pledge, a movement and a promise for a healthier and cleaner future for the coming generations. He observed that it is the responsibility of every citizen to realise the dream of ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat’ (Clean India, Healthy India).

Highlighting recent achievements, Dhami said that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation was placed 19th in the country in the Clean Air Survey under the National Air Programme. He also reminded that the Corporation has also secured 62nd position in the national cleanliness rankings this year, an improvement over the previous years. He added that toilets have been constructed for more than six lakh families in the state who previously lacked them.

He further stated that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has set up a cleanliness control room for speedy redressal of sanitation-related complaints. With efficient garbage collection, CCTV monitoring and regular cleaning mechanisms, the city is being guided towards better standards of hygiene and order.

Dhami commented that cleanliness is not only a government initiative but also a part of Indian culture and lifestyle. Appealing to citizens, he urged them to take responsibility for keeping their homes, neighbourhoods, their villages and the towns clean. Stressing the importance of environmental protection, he referred to the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and said that afforestation is essential for improving quality of life and ensuring a clean environment for future generations.
