Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 28 Sep: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed a press conference at the BJP State Headquarters here today regarding the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Swadeshi Sankalp: Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar Ghar Swadeshi’ scheme of the government. On this occasion, he stressed on the significance of Swadeshi and described it as the very foundation for a self-reliant and developed India rather than merely a slogan. Dhami noted that Swadeshi has always been integral to the Sanatan cultural way of life since ancient times. Later, speaking informally with media, the CM asserted that over 10,000 government jobs will be filled over the next one year by the government through competitive examinations.

Speaking about the Swadeshi campaign, Dhami observed that the current campaign will reinforce the resolve expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve a self-reliant India by 2047. Dhami also asserted that Swadeshi represents not only economic empowerment for farmers, artisans, small traders and entrepreneurs, but also embodies a deep sense of respect and commitment towards the motherland. He said that embracing Swadesh is a way of staying connected to India’s soil and strengthening the national economy.

The CM also recalled the historical significance of the Swadeshi movement, stating that it energised the freedom struggle. He highlighted the contributions of leaders such as Lokmanya Tilak, Maharshi Aurobindo and Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that Swadeshi was essential to nation-building. He added that after independence, leaders like Dattopant Thengadi and Deendayal Upadhyay advanced an economic vision centred around Swadeshi.

Dhami referred to the recent announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech, in which a revision in GST rates was declared. He noted that the revised rates, which came into effect from 22 September, coinciding with Navratri, have proven beneficial to both the traders and the public. He shared that after holding discussions with traders and consumers at various locations, he found enthusiastic support for the move. He also mentioned that initiatives such as Vocal for Local and Make in India are all designed to enhance self-reliance.

Dhami emphasised that the campaign is no longer confined to Khadi or diya production. The concept of Swadeshi now extends to advanced technologies, including the BrahMos missile, Tejas aircraft, semiconductors, Digital India and UPI. He pointed out the success of Swadeshi in actions such as Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror bases inside Pakistan, and cited the production of PPE kits and vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic as illustrative of India’s growing indigenous capabilities.

Dhami reminded that a unified brand, ‘House of Himalayas’, has been launched to promote high-quality Uttarakhand products to the wider market, despite constraints in resources. Further, the ‘One District, Two Products’ initiative is being implemented at the district level. Farmers and cultivators are becoming vital contributors to Atmanirbhar Bharat by growing products such as honey, mandua, jhangora, ragi, spices and medicinal plants.

Dhami further emphasised that rural self-employment and small-scale industries would be fostered, and the youth would be encouraged to undertake indigenous entrepreneurship through start-ups and digital platforms. Dhami also appealed to the public to prioritise Swadeshi products during Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali and wedding seasons when making purchases of daily-use items.

The CM stressed the need to adopt Swadeshi comprehensively in order to realise the vision of a developed and self-reliant India, stating that most items in daily use should be of indigenous origin. He affirmed that these collective efforts would accelerate progress towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and called for everyone to internalise the Prime Minister’s mantra of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’.

Later, in response to questions from the media regarding government jobs in Uttarakhand, Dhami announced that over 10,000 posts will be filled within the coming year. He also clarified that the government does not oppose a CBI probe into the alleged cheating case in the UKSSSC examination but explained that another agency is currently investigating the case and assured that no guilty individual would be spared.

BJP General Secretary Deepti Rawat and BJP Media In-charge Manveer Chauhan were also present during the Press Conference.
