Dehradun, 21 Nov: The State Government has deferred the proposed hike in the fitness fee for 15-year-old commercial vehicles until 1st July 2026. During this period, the previously determined old fee rates will remain in effect. The decision to postpone the fee hike has come on the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and is expected to provide significant financial relief to vehicle owners across the state from the economic burden caused by the fee hike. The future fee rates will be implemented only as per the next revision carried out by the Government of India.
On the instructions of CM Dhami, the State Government has provided significant relief to vehicle owners in Uttarakhand by postponing the hike in fitness fees for older (15-year-old) commercial vehicles until 1st July 2026. An official notification regarding this has been issued today by the Transport Department. The notification was issued under the signatures of Transport Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant.
Commenting on this development, Dhami stated that the Central Government had recently increased the fitness fee for 15-year-old commercial vehicles by up to ten times. Considering the public sentiment in the state, the State Government decided not to impose this immediate financial burden on vehicle owners in Uttarakhand.
The CM claimed that Uttarakhand Government is taking decisions that prioritise public interest and prevent unnecessary financial strain on the general populace. He reiterated that the State Government will continue to work in line with the expectations of the people.
Dhami asserted that the government’s resolve is to provide relief to the public and take swift decisions in the public interest. Given the recent increase in commercial vehicle fitness fees by the Central Government, the state government has postponed its implementation in Uttarakhand for one year. The previously determined fee will remain applicable during this period. He added that the government does not want sudden additional financial pressure on vehicle owners and those associated with the transport business in the state. The new rates will be implemented in the state only in accordance with the future revisions made by the Central Government.
The CM further added that his government is sensitive to the public. Protecting the interests of the poor, the middle class and the thousands of people associated with the taxi and transport business is its priority.
